FUR

my favorite shot

So last quarter I was co director of the fashion show that we put on for the Arts of FashionFoundation. To see a video of the entire show go here and backstage video go here!

I also took a master class the weekend before the show where we had to create a piece out of faux fur and faux leather. We had to create a piece in the way you would create an accessory rather than a coat. So there is minor sewing on my piece, (not that accessories dont have sewing clearly thats just the way I went with my piece) like a couple hand stitching for support but the rest is rivets, rings, grommets and chains all by hand. My class was taught by Anthony Vaccarello and David Duby. They are both amazing designers from Paris and I am so blessed to have been given the opportunity to take a class taught by them!

Needless to say I was a crazy person all quarter and ESPECIALLY that week of the show. I
created my garment and head piece in 3 days all while helping planning and run the show. The show was held at the Bentley Reserve which is a beautiful venue!

The weekend after the show I did a photo shoot with some girls in my fur class and they turned out amazing!! Here are all my pics from the class, show and photo shoot! =) Enjoy

Firebird

Today was the first day of my winter quarter and I am way excited about my classes. I only had one today which was costume design and I cant wait to start! We had to choose a ballet out of three and I chose Firebird. Firebird is actually celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and it is beautiful!

The ballet centers on the journey of its hero, Prince Ivan. Ivan enters the magical realm of Kashchei the Immortal. While wandering in the gardens, he sees and chases the Firebird. The Firebird, once caught by Ivan, begs for its life and ultimately agrees to assist Ivan in exchange for eventual freedom.

Next, Prince Ivan sees thirteen princesses, with one of whom he falls in love. The next day, Ivan chooses to confront Kashchei to ask to marry one of the princesses; the two talk and eventually begin quarreling. When Kashchei sends his magical creatures after Ivan, the Firebird, true to its pledge, intervenes, bewitching the creatures and making them dance an elaborate, energetic dance (the "Infernal Dance"). The creatures and Kashchei then fall asleep; however, Kashchei awakens and is then sent into another dance by the Firebird. While Kashchei is bewitched by the Firebird she tells Ivan the secret to Kashchei's immortality - his soul is contained inside an enormous, magical egg. Ivan destroys the egg, killing Kashchei. With Kashchei gone and his spell broken, the magical creatures and the palace all disappear. All of the "real" beings (including the princesses) awaken and, with one final fleeting appearance from the Firebird, celebrate their victory.

We get to choose what time period we want our ballet to be in then we are going to illustrate every person in the ballet, and i mean EVERY person. I am especially looking forward to designing all of the monsters! Then once that is all complete we are going to construct one of the pieces. I am so excited to get started! Ill update my progress =)

There are a ton of videos of the ballet on YouTube. I really like this video but the only thing that bothers me is prince Ivan's blown out hair hah
