Firebird

Today was the first day of my winter quarter and I am way excited about my classes. I only had one today which was costume design and I cant wait to start! We had to choose a ballet out of three and I chose Firebird. Firebird is actually celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and it is beautiful!

The ballet centers on the journey of its hero, Prince Ivan. Ivan enters the magical realm of Kashchei the Immortal. While wandering in the gardens, he sees and chases the Firebird. The Firebird, once caught by Ivan, begs for its life and ultimately agrees to assist Ivan in exchange for eventual freedom.

Next, Prince Ivan sees thirteen princesses, with one of whom he falls in love. The next day, Ivan chooses to confront Kashchei to ask to marry one of the princesses; the two talk and eventually begin quarreling. When Kashchei sends his magical creatures after Ivan, the Firebird, true to its pledge, intervenes, bewitching the creatures and making them dance an elaborate, energetic dance (the "Infernal Dance"). The creatures and Kashchei then fall asleep; however, Kashchei awakens and is then sent into another dance by the Firebird. While Kashchei is bewitched by the Firebird she tells Ivan the secret to Kashchei's immortality - his soul is contained inside an enormous, magical egg. Ivan destroys the egg, killing Kashchei. With Kashchei gone and his spell broken, the magical creatures and the palace all disappear. All of the "real" beings (including the princesses) awaken and, with one final fleeting appearance from the Firebird, celebrate their victory.

We get to choose what time period we want our ballet to be in then we are going to illustrate every person in the ballet, and i mean EVERY person. I am especially looking forward to designing all of the monsters! Then once that is all complete we are going to construct one of the pieces. I am so excited to get started! Ill update my progress =)

There are a ton of videos of the ballet on YouTube. I really like this video but the only thing that bothers me is prince Ivan's blown out hair hah

Trunks and Tails

Well I made it to Arkansas! Not without the occasional look like I am a crazy person...what? Apparently Fort Smithians have never seen a gal with a trunk and a fox tail. Whatevs.

I found another new trunk yesterday at an antique store and it was a STEAL!

On another note...I came across this photo from the show and I am dying over it. Im talking with all the designers before the show and Margo Moritz captured it

All for now! Running to meet one of my closest high school friends for dinner!

It has been embarrassingly long since I have posted. There really isnt an excuse other than the fact that I have been sewing my life away, helping put on an AMAZING fashion show, designing and creating a piece for the show, photo shoots, internship, school and j living life =)

I promise to make some posts soon about the show and everything else I have been up to since Sept! But here is a quick post with some gorgeous window displays in New York. We have some pretty awesome windows displays here in SF. I need to get down to Union Square so I can take some of my own!

Prints and Graphics

Its been a while again but midterms were taking up ALL of my time. By all of my time I mean staying at school until the security guards kicked me out at midnight and was back there at 730 am...Yea that bad. I have been getting some amazing projects done though. Not to brag but my illustrations are pretty bomb and I made a super bad ass jacket =)
While researching for yet another midterm project I of course was using Style Sight. I dont know what I am going to do when I am no longer a student and I cannot access this site for free. Anyway here is a few layouts I found from their Prints and Graphics section that I am OBSESSED with.

Gorgeous right?
